24/02/2017 ROCCO has been monitoring and analysing the EU Roaming Regulation Report strategies of MNOs in the EU ahead of this June’s abolition of Roaming and produced a new report into the Regulation.

EU Roaming Regulation Strategy Report 2017

ROCCO asked MNOs across the 28 EU Member States to contribute to its research on the Roaming regulation. With the plans for Abolition of Roaming announced we wanted to see how MNOs would interpret the rules and what strategy they would take. 30 MNOs in 26 Member states, told us their strategy, we analysed the data and reported on the trends.

You may have seen Roam Like at Home tariffs appearing all over the globe these days. In the competition to win roaming subscribers MNOs across the world have been inspired by what is happening in the EU. However in the case of the specific MNOs actually having to follow the regulation these last 10 years, embracing the latest Regulation is not so easy.

This last few months has seen a tremendous challenge for the European Commission in debating and finally presenting a proposal on the Fair use policy and Wholesale IOT Rates which will be applied to this years abolition of roaming in the EU. Permanent Roaming scenarios which may arise when the whole of the EU endeavours roaming for free. That’s a potential of half a billion mobile phone subscribers allowed to roam across the EU without paying extra, irrelevant of whether their home country receives a lot of Roamers or sends a lot of Roamers, everyone has the same conditions. Then there is the impacts Brexit will have on its fruition in 2019.

MNOs who participated in the Research will receive their free Executive Summary Report shortly, thanks for your support and feedback, we hope you enjoy the data and insights into the other MNOs.
