ROCCO Research: The Leading Vendors in Financial Clearing 2017 as rated by MNOs

ROCCO HQ London 31/05/2017. Our 4th annual research into the Performance and Leadership of Financial Clearing Vendors has been concluded, the results have been checked and verified and we are pleased to announce the Tier One Providers in Financial Clearing for 2017.

Financial Clearing is a strict and precise process needed for the delivery of International Roaming billing. Financial Clearing is the process of ascertaining exactly what Roaming data, calls and SMS are produced by each MNO and clearing and settling the bills for the data. The support for Invoicing processes and chasing of payments on behalf of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are completed by Financial Clearing houses who operate internationally to settle accounts. Financial Clearing and Settlement (to use its full title) refers to settlement also with MNOs who in some cases use their own in-house Financial Clearing function to work with the Vendors. The tracking, collection and reporting on Bad debt between the MNOs is often also carried out by Financial Clearing functions as well as the delicate task of handling discounts which they offer each other which still in some cases are dealt with by credit notes. While MNOs have strict rules within their contracts with other MNOs, the validation and processing of invoices is still a specifically challenging task that when paired with Data Clearing is vital to the delivery of roaming services today.

ROCCO identified 11 Vendors who offer Data Clearing services which support clearing of data for International Roaming. Repeating the popular research we conducted in 2015, we then asked Mobile Operators to rate the Vendors against over 35 Performance and Leadership KPIs to identify the leading Vendors in this market.

Congratulations to the three Vendors who reached Tier One within our research. Tier One means that across all categories these Vendors were rated 4-5 points out of 5 by MNOs.

Comfone are a featured regular in our Financial Clearing research having achieved Tier One in our 2014 and 2015 report. Nextgen appeared in Tier One in 2015 and Syniverse with their long history in Financial Clearing have re-emerged as a reputable challenger to the market as they were also rated Tier One this year.

Between March to May 2017 we asked Mobile Network Operators globally to give us their perceptions of Financial Clearing Vendors. The survey was about brand perception, experience of these providers as well as an understanding of whether MNOs would choose them over others.
