ROCCO has recently released the third edition of its VoLTE Vision Roaming & Interconnect report. In a context where 5G deployments are gaining momentum and the pressure on voice revenues is increasing, it is worth assessing MNOs’ stance worldwide about VoLTE.
Over the years, there has been an interesting debate about the launch of VoLTE, and particularly, about the challenges associated with it. In this regard, the lack of devices supporting VoLTE has been a major hindrance in this process. There have also been compatibility issues with some device types and emergency calls. Operators have also found challenging the billing aspects associated with VoLTE due to the existence of different ways of charging.
Given that the participant MNOs have different approaches with VoLTE, this report allows a better understanding of how they were able to launch it. Moreover, Roaming vendors can understand better how they can help the MNOs that are currently launching this service.
